Liz Allbee is a composer, improviser and performer who works with the imaginarchic potential of sonic material. Recurring themes in her work include embodiments & extensions – relationships between human players, musical instruments, everyday sound objects, and high & low technologies – as well as basic instrument building and strategies for DIY spatialization. She is fascinated by the guttural, proto-linguistic qualities of musical voices. She performs often with her trumpet, quad-trumpet, voice, and electronics. She has performed at Maerzmusik, Darmstadt, CTM, Huddersfield, Donaueschingen, Ostrava Days, Serralves, Bolzano Museum of Fine Art, Berlin JazzFest, Wien Modern, and Berghain, among others.

Many lesser oddball talents make the proud boast that they will invite you into their strange mental world and amaze you thereby. Allbee not only makes good on the promise, but she refuses to let you out again afterwards. I hereby dub her the Circe of the avant-garde music world, and I have now been turned into a pig.”
